The Friends of the Whithorn Trust is a registered charity, founded in 1987 with the aim of promoting and assisting the Trust in all possible ways : these include publicity for the Trust, fund raising, and giving, where appropriate, voluntary assistance. This can involve distribution of information, help in the shop and cafe, acting as tour guides to the site, and demonstration in the Discovery Centre.
The Friends Committee is also responsible for the annual Whithorn Lecture, a major academic occasion, which takes place each September, and to which all Friends are invited. The year 2010 saw the 18th of these lectures, each of which is later published. In addition, the committee arranges a series of lectures in the spring, on topics of local interest.
At the time of the September Lecture there is also the week-long St Ninian Festival, which includes exhibitions, concerts and theatrical events.
